The Freedom4U Changes Groups support and teach important life skills to teens and their parents. The Changes groups use evidence based material, peer mentors, healthy activities and service based learning to guides teens and parents toward healthy coping skills. Within two seperate groups, parents and teens learn to make effective strides towards a healthier, stress and substance free life.
Group Schedule:
The Changes Groups is a weekly group for ten weeks. There are separate parent and teen 90-minute groups.
Parents and/or teens may attend at any time.
Personal individual and family therapy options are also available.
Costs: $60/ week covers both the parent and teen weekly group.
Financial assistance is available. Furthermore, Freedom4U is seeking donations make these groups available to all families.
The Changes Groups consist of:
Stress Reduction Skills: The Changes Groups reduce stress and reconnect families by improving communication, mutual understanding and relationships.
Parent Discussion Group: Evidence based information will support and guide parents toward improved teen parent relationships.
Teen Life Skills Discussion Group: This group is led by a professional counselor with the assistance of peer mentors. The format is on an open topical discussion of issues teens face daily, including; peers, feeling, relationships, and alternative activities. The group focuses on teaching resiliency to teens so that they can better manage their lives.
Healthy Activities: The culture of youth has not always been one of seeking fun, exciting experiences. Increasingly, teens are not involved in healthy fun activities. At the Changes Program, teens will have the option of being involved in planning, coordinating and participating in fun activities that are entirely substance free.
Service Learning: Freedom4U has a service-learning network where teens have the option of directly participating in specific causes. In this way, teens will learn to help someone in greater need than themselves or to help a needy cause. There are multiple service options.
